Who is Dr. E.G. and L.R??

Could L. R. be Lavilla?

A job for our cemetery detectives.

The last name on “Bethany” is obliterated so do not know if it says Bacon or not.   Francis is the last person on one page and she is the first on the next appearing to be under the same house and family numbers.

There is a marriage listed in Allen Co., IN for

Francis Beutley Bacon and Eliza Ellen Bailey on January 20, 1879.

Any explanations??   (Beutley is probably Bentley)

Would appreciate any help on putting the Bacon Family together.

BACON, F. C.

Taken from the December 24, 1873 Fort Wayne Sentinel

SUDDEN DEATH  ----   An Old and Highly Esteemed Physician

            Died in this City Yesterday

It is the painful duty of the Sentinel  to chronicle the death of a prominent and highly esteemed citizen of Huntertown, DR. F. C. BACON, who died suddenly in this city last evening, from apoplexy, after an illness of a few short hours.  Dr. Bacon came into the city on business yesterday morning, and called to see his son, who is with DRS. LOAG & BROWN, dentists, in the forenoon apparently in excellent health.   He was very portly and partook rather freely of dinner in some restaurant, and when he returned to the office of DRS. LOAG & BROWN, near one o’clock, he must have felt unwell, for he stumbled on the sidewalk, when MR. W. T. PRATT overheard the noise and went to his assistance and brought him into the dental office.   He then immediately became unconscious and only a slight reaction took place in about an hour;  he did not fully recover his senses, but soon relapsed, and the signs of hemiplegia manifested themselves and the coma increased.   Between 5 and 6 o’clock he was taken to the residence of WM. LYTLE, ESQ., where his son boards.   Notwithstanding that everything was done which medical skill could devise, he died about half past nine last evening.  His family were not present until after his death, except his son before mentioned.   He was, however, surrounded by several warm friends, among whom was Mr. J. D. HILLIGASS, who was present to the last moment.   The remains were taken to Huntertown this afternoon.

Deceased was about 50 years of age, and has lived in Huntertown for 27 years, during the greater part of which time he has been a leading physician and a highly respected citizen among the people.   He was a member in good standing of the Masonic fraternity, and greatly beloved by his brethren.   He leaves a widow and five children to morn his loss.  His numerous friends deeply sympathize with the bereaved family in this their hour of trial.

In both of these census entries he is living among other “single” people with no wife listed.  Perhaps the 1930 census that says “M” for married is an error.

Francis C. Bacon was his great-great grandfather and the son, James Dalton Bacon was his great grandfather.

James D. Bacon lived his final years in Alameda, California.
